Develop Employment Handbooks
 
Consultech has some clients that rely on us for our HR Consulting services. This is an area offered by Consultech which provides a pro-active approach to avoiding, for example wrongful discharge claims. For example a supervisor may contact us because he wants to replace a worker who is out on a worker’s compensation claim. Depending on the circumstances, terminating the employee may not be a viable option due to protection it may afford the employee under the Americans for Disability Act or the Family Medical Leave Act. Or a former employee calls and states that he is due overtime over the past year. Again depending on the circumstances and the law we may or may not recommend that the client pay. Consultech’s job in this regard is to avoid a claim or if a claim is filed what would be our client’s defense, if any.
Other areas of consultation that many of our clients call on us for may have to do with our intervention when an employee complains to a supervisor that he/she was discriminated on or harassed by another employee. Consultech is likely to conduct an independent investigation as to the nature of allegations and then counsel the employee (s) against whom such allegation were made. Part of Consultech’s HR cost prevention services is reviewing Employee Handbooks and if necessary re-writing an Employee Handbook or if a company does not have an Employee Handbook create one for the client. Answers to workplace questions or concerns are most often addressed in an Employee Handbook. Employee Handbooks are meant to communicate a consistent set of rules and laws governing the workplace as well as cover those areas that may be unique to the client. Employee Handbooks tend to enhance an employer’s creditability when empowered federal and state agencies are deciding on how to adjudicate a job related claim. Consultech believes therefore that an employer is better having an Employee Handbook than not having an Employee Handbook.
